Marketing falls under so many categories or titles. Basically it’s the same thing. To promote a business or anything that you want people to be made aware of. Marketing is big business all around the world, no matter how big or small a business is, it needs some sort of marketing at some point. Using marketing can take a business into the next step up the ladder, increasing sales and brand. Improving your business takes many forms, from SEO to magazine advertising, newspapers and billboards. Getting your name in front of as many people as possible for the lowest budget as possible. Some companies have huge marketing budgets, such as the well-known household names like Coca Cola, Tesco, Microsoft and the list goes on. For most of us, this isn’t the case, struggling small businesses just can’t compete or can they.

 

The truth is, there are so many ways to market your business, whether online or the more traditional ways. The key is to find what works for your business. What will work well for one business might not work at all for another. I have some personal experience with advertising in a national magazine. It was a web hosting company I used to own but sold back in 2006.

I was doing well in the search engines due to our digital marketing strategy and making good money. I decided to spend some of this on magazine advertising to see what would happen. Knowing this would be a long term commitment, I still went for it. After four months with just a few extra sales, I wondered if this was going to work at all. I carried on and when I reached six months it really took off.

This taught me something, in marketing and advertising, you have to make the commitment and stick with it. What happened was people saw my advert for the first time, the second time, and every month until they realized it wasn’t a fly-by-night advert, this was a genuine business who means business. This is why it eventually paid off. People continually saw my advert and grew to trust the business name.
